The packaging for the Japanese tea "Hinokazuki" won the 2021 TOPAWARDS ASIA Design Award, showcasing a pure Japanese design that highlights its origin. The gradient of water droplets reflects the process of tea fields turning from green to red. The character "丿" in the product name symbolizes the shape of Tokunoshima, where the tea is produced. This complete design concept earned "Hinokazuki" the prestigious TOP packaging design award this year.
"Hinokazuki" is made from SUNROUGE tea leaves produced in Tokunoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. Under the strong sunlight of the southern islands, the tea leaves develop red new buds, resembling lipstick, hence the name SUNROUGE. This is Japan's first red green tea, taking 12 years to cultivate, and is named using the color "Akane" to represent red.
The pesticide-free SUNROUGE tea not only contains the usual catechins and polyphenols found in green tea, such as flavonoids, but also contains rare anthocyanins. These can inhibit sugar-decomposing enzyme activity and alleviate eye fatigue, earning it the designation of a functional food that promotes health with every sip.
"Hinokazuki" will exhibit different colors based on the type of water, temperature, and steeping time. Due to the high anthocyanin content, adding acidic components transforms it into a red color. When lemon or grapefruit, which are acidic fruits, are added to the originally green tea, it will beautifully change to red!
